ITS TIME TO VACCINATE TAMIL STUDENTS

It’s true that today’s Tamil students are young, vibrant, and technically sound in various aspects of computer concepts. From around 450 Engineering colleges in TN, Lakhs of students getting passed out every year and placed in IT stream. But very few buds take the challenge of solving Tamil computing problems in their mini-projects and final semester Main projects. There are plenty of opportunities in Tamil Computing area, but students struggle to submit title during zeroth review. It’s sad to realize that most of them unaware of importance of Tamil & Tamil computing.

Due to evolution of technology, most things became system-based/online. Most Thing became device based. Even though most works like Madurai Ebook Thittam, Tamil communities like compTamilsangam, software works like alagiTrans, sview etc., etc., (All names changed) came forward in last decades, But still we Tamilians lag behind the upcoming technologies. i.e., Not upto the level of saturation. There are lot works -still bending to make our Tamil community get lifted to further steps.

Its said that 1 prestigious International standard university is in Tamil Nadu, named Brother University (again name changed) where Lakhs-n-lakhs of students are doing projects every year. Most cases, its downloaded from site or even pay-projects from centers (according to the capacity of the individual) . Its true that Univ syllabus is comparatively advanced in standards, but there is big-hole when we look into the project aspects.

If staff members who guiding them take enough steps in broad minded manner, the scenario can be quietly changed to good one-for the sustainable development of our society. IT, CSE students can be motivated to take Tamil projects for the welfare of our state. For systems like computer/mobile/Tablet etc., they can do localization work of world-wide most used apps, Text-to-speech, speech to text, Tamil software to give input, transliterate, font support apps, Multimedia way of teach, etc etc., etc., . Instead of X-Management system, As they struggle to solve real word problems, Its true their work will make difference, by marketing them – unique in crowd during placements too.

China, Japan – all great giants of global market achieved their growth, track record – only by making their assets that’s human resource to get learn through their own mother tongue. Those countries proved their pinnacle of excellence in GDP, Science & Research… Its scientifically proven world-wide, that the power of learning through mother tongue will make drastic effect – macro level revolution in understanding concepts. But we Indians- multi-lingual state, moving against the proven science, migrating from our own language to English. The reason behind this, we think using (even if improper) English – something adds value / Star image in society. And also instead of cultivating values of life, we incorpate bolts and nuts to make money-minded Mug-up machines (Students in schools during childhood) . We are not against English. English is – flexible universally accepted global language to communicate. Its need to learn English to survive in today’s fast growing competitive world to work in MNC’s. English is like step-mother, Tamil is Mother. English is like packaged powder based milk. Tamil is ?!. Aware of healthy things.

Fact is, if we learn in our mother tongue, concepts can be understand in crystal clear way. We people all came across Archimedes principle in schoolings know?! Check it – Students who learnt it in English medium most case fail to explain it – comparing with Tamil Medium students. Learning through mother tongue- Tamil will surely add spices to our entire carrier.

It’s time to upgrade our Tamil community to next state through Tamil computing. Just check out the stuff (in Tamil computing) of students by putting forth basic questions like,

“Difference between ASCII and TSCII”

“Why we choose Unicode, what’s precious in it?!”

Most students unaware of it.

We started giving lectures & workshops about Tamil computing in and around – nearby institutions. Also we assist interested (Only) students in various aspects from idea generation to develop Tamil applications – upto the level of opt for government funds through proposals.
